The American Caner Society helps people facing breast cancer. Here's how!
They offer the nation's only 24- hour cancer information line, 800-ACS-2345,
where people fighting cancer can turn to anytime, day or night and talk to a Trained Cancer Specialist in several languages.
They connect newly diagnosed breast cancer patients with specially trained survivors through the society's Reach to Recovery Program. These volunteer survivors offer emotional support and understanding to help guide patients through their journey with the disease.
They offer free breast cancer resources, such as brochures, pamphlets, information kits, books, etc, for anyone looking for information and answers.
They offer a state-of-the-art website (www.cancer.org ) where people can learn about breast cancer and all other types of cancer. People can find out how to reduce cancer risk, locate hospitals, learn about treatment options and clinical trials, and much more.
The American Cancer Society also provides free programs and services that improve the quality of life for cancer patients and their families in more than 3400 communities across the country. Here's some of what the society offers:
Transportation assistance to and from treatments.
Free lodging for those having to travel long distances for treatment.
Free wigs and assistance with treatment related physical side effects.
Emotional support programs and cancer education classes.
Online cancer support network.
